The first gaff was tapped on May 24, 1908. And already in the twenties of the last century, Gaffel was the largest in-house brewery for top-fermented beer in Cologne. The annual output was estimated at around 5,000 hectoliters at the time. At the end of the forties the beer output was already 10,000 hl. After the Second World War, things continued to improve. This development has prevailed to this day. The house brewery became a medium-sized company with the private brewery Gaffel Becker & Co. OHG.
The managing partners are Heinrich and Heinrich Philipp Becker, who are now the fourth generation to run Gaffel. 3,000 objects are supplied via the beverage wholesalers in the Cologne administrative district alone.
In gastronomy, Gaffel is by far the most popular Kölsch with a market share of almost 30%.
